Paradigm Labs is small on purpose. The people building the software have done the work it describes, which is why it argues with you about the right things.
The short version
Paradigm is building the system of record for the built environment — the software that property, construction, code compliance, and licensing actually run on, rebuilt so a person and an agent work from the same source.
Foundational industries are the ones that build, inspect, and permit everything else. They got the least attention from the people who could have fixed their software, and they happen to be the industries where the work is structured enough for an agent to be genuinely useful. That gap is the opening, and it is why we started here.
Where this comes from
Josh Barry founded Paradigm Labs. He served in the Marine Corps, then spent a career in construction and code compliance before he wrote a line of software.
That order matters. Most software for the built world was written by people who have never had a permit rejected, never had an inspection fail on a technicality, and never had to explain to an owner why a project sat three weeks waiting on a review. So the tools model the paperwork instead of the work.
We build from the other direction — around the decision a person actually has to make, not the form a system wants filled in.
How we work
A survey is only as good as the point it starts from. So is a permit record, an inspection result, or a code citation. We fix the reference first and derive everything from it, instead of letting every screen invent its own version of the truth.
Where a published standard exists, we use it and name it. Adopted code sections. ASCE design criteria. FEMA flood data. The APWA color code this interface is built on. You should be able to check a claim without calling us.
A build that compiles is not a build that works. Every change gets run against the real workflow before it reaches anyone, and we'd rather report a blocker than hand over something that only looks finished.
Every system is API-first and MCP-native from the first commit, so a person and an agent reach the same data through the same contract. Bolt that on later and what you get is a scraper and a support ticket.
Working together
Paradigm is not a consultancy, an agency, or a dev shop for hire. We build products, run them, and answer for them.
We take a small number of institutional engagements — a state system, a building department, an industry organization — when the work fits what we already know. Short list, on purpose. If the fit isn’t there, you’ll hear it in week one instead of month four.
